There is a lot of debate about the potential health benefits of intermittent fasting. There is a certain group of people who have become extraordinarily passionate about this technique and now believe it to be an almost universal cure-all. With one of their most oft-cited claims being that intermittent fasting has special benefits for weight loss. I have previously addressed intermittent fasting here and here. Alcohol has been demonized as a poison with no benefits, but the truth seems to be much more complex, and it may actualy be good for your health.
IF YOU ARE WORRIED YOU MAY HAVE A SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEM, PLEASE SEEK TREATMENT. IT IS A SERIOUS DISEASE WITH SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. ALWAYS REMEMBER I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND THIS INFORMATION IS GIVEN FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.
When you first start to lose weight, one of the most common pieces of advice is to completely eliminate it from your diet, that it does nothing for your health, and will only serve to stall your weight loss. However, what if alcohol actually was not as bad for you as is often described? And what if even more shockingly alcohol was associated with a lower incidence of obesity? Intermittent fasting is a shocking at first, but perhaps very effective weight loss technique
So like I mentioned I have recommitted myself to losing weight and this has included doing some new research into diet techniques. One that I found really interesting was Intermittent Fasting. The concept behind intermittent fasting is really quite simple. At it’s core it is simply alternating periods of fast (no eating) with periods of eating. However it has been shown to have some truly interesting health effects.
Sometimes you set out to lose weight, and find the scale just does not work in your favor. This past week that was me.
Okay weight loss is hard. Everyone who has ever done it before knows this. Last week was a huge weight loss week for me, however the combination of stress, and a different schedule meant this week I rebounded a little bit. However, this gives me a chance to pontificate for a minute about some of the interesting things I have observed at this point. (Remember you can track progress here) Continue reading “Weight Loss Update”
Please excuse the quality, and some of my asides, this was pulled down from a Facebook live video I did.
So I kinda completely fell off the bandwagon in terms of my weight loss (something I struggle with here), but thanks to a bet with a friend, I am recommitting to the goal. Over the next ten and a half weeks, I committed to losing twenty pounds, while he committed to gaining ten. (Here’s the link to follow our progress). So over the next few weeks you will see articles focusing both on how to lose weight, and also on how to gain weight. I’ll be exploring a few different topics from both of these perspectives and so I hope you are excited.
I AM NOT A DOCTOR THIS IS INFORMATIONAL ONLY
In general our goal is to keep out blood sugar relatively low, as high blood sugar leads to high insulin levels, leads to the potential of developing insulin resistance and potentially type 2 diabetes. I remember reading somewhere long ago that vinegar helped to suppress blood glucose levels, and curiosity led me to look into it. Continue reading “Vinegar as a Blood Sugar Cheat Code?”
I AM NOT A DOCTOR. PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN SAUNAS. THIS IS INFORMATIONAL ONLY. ALWAYS CONSULT WITH A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.
Occasionally I’ll come across a piece of health or fitness advice that sets my bullshit detector off hard. I was reading Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss (a book I highly recommend) when a couple of the people profiled in the book suggested that one of their secrets to health was using a sauna.

In this video I discuss how to get fluffier scrambled eggs. All you have to do is add about 1 tablespoon of club soda per egg and scramble it into the eggs. The evaporation of the water combined with the carbonation gives you fantastically fluffy eggs, and if you cook them on low heat they turn out fantastic.
